Tay Zonday sings "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch"

Remember the infamous Youtube video "Chocolate Rain?" Well, here's the same artist (Tay Zonday) singing the Grinch's theme song. Try and stay tuned for his very insightful explanation of the deeper meaning of the song after he finishes singing. It's very entertaining.

DRANKK Quote of the Day

So on the way to our swim meet at Monmouth University, some kid on the bus asked if we were near Jersey City (clearly confused) cause he saw a Checkers. Now although this makes no sense because Checkers is a chain (when i see a White Castle, do i assume im on route 37 in Toms River?), it lead my coach to ask, "what's Checkers? A strip club?" Needless to say I was in stitches, until the kid replied saying, "Nah, its like a McDonalds for black people."

Checkers, this is for you...I think you should consider that as your new slogan.

Our most recent Purple Poll asked you, "What is your fave Chrimbo food/drink?"

Congrats to hot chocolate for winning with a romping 40% of the votes! I'm proud to announce that egg nog came in second place with 30%, as that is personally my favorite holiday treat. Slice-and-bake cookies came in 3rd place with gingerbread guys (or gingerbred if you're Kitty ;) ) in 4th place. And candy canes got no votes at all. :(

Musica, Mas Musica

Idk if there are any of you out there who download the Itunes "Free Pick of the Week" once every 7 days religiously like I do - hey, I'll take any free, legal music I can get my paws on. But if you don't, you should certainly start. They always have a random alternative song or two, and they're usually pretty good songs.

If you get the chance get shopping there this week, download the "Itunes Holiday Sampler." I thought free music of any genre was great, but now they're hitting me with this free chrimbo music snowball, and it's like my dreams have come true.

To claim your prize, scroll to the bottom of your Itunes Homepage to the section titled, "Free on Itunes," and I think you can take it from there.

The Origin of DRANKk

Since Casey and I have started DRANKk, many people have asked us what the name is all about. Personally, I liked PurpleDRANKk because people who drink the sizzurp like it, love it, and cant get enough of it. I wanted people to feel the same way about our blog. Naturally. However, the culture of the drank is an interesting one. I've done all the hard work for you:

According to Urban Dictionary, Purple Drank is:
Purple Drank is an illegal recreational drink popular in the Southern United States rap community, whose main ingredients originally consisted of prescription strength cough syrup, containing codeine and promethazine, and either a carbonated soft drink (generally Sprite) or fruit juice. The purple-ish hue of Purple Drank comes from the dyes in the cough syrup. Recently, the term has expanded to cover mixtures including over-the-counter cough syrup and vodka in place of prescription cough syrup. Other terms for Purple Drank include Barre, Oil, Purple Tonic, Lean (or Southern Lean,) Drank, and Syrup (which is sometimes slangly pronounced as Sizzurp.)

The active ingredient of purple drank is codeine, an opiate medication contained in prescription strength cough syrups due to its antitussive properties. Some prescription cough syrups also contain anti-histamine medications, such as promethazine, which have a mild sedative effect. When taken in large quantities, both medications can lead to sedation and altered levels of consciousness.

Houston producer DJ Screw first popularized the concoction, which is widely attributed as a source of inspiration for the "chopped & screwed" style of hip hop music. Originally, the active ingredient of "Syrup" was cough syrup containing promethazine and codeine. The concoction first gained popularity in the underground Houston, Texas rap scene and later spread to other southern states.

Dave Chappelle's Take on the Purple "Drink"
And, of course, Grimace's Take on the DRANKk

Hopefully that cleared things up.

A Very Gaga Christmas

In the YouTubelet featured below, Lady Gaga does Christmas... Need I say more?
Introducing "Christmas Tree."

23 Days till DRANKKmas!

Today in journalism, I tried to think about my christmas list that I have not made yet and naturally I was tempted to write Hippopotamus. Then it dawned on me that some DRANKK readers may not know this song!

Certainly everyone in the english speaking world should know it, so culture yourself and watch the video below:

This one is especially hilarious because the images that show up go along with the lyrics, but they are so random...I was laughing anyway. There is no official "music video" for it because the song was released in 1953 by eleven-year old Gayla Peevey.

As I searched YouTube for various other covers of the song, I found an IMPOSTER JoBro version...WHO ARE THEY KIDDING. This is why the JoBros are on my sh*t list.

Regardless, enjoy the song because it IS a classic. The original version that is.

Day One of Wimbo

We kicked off the celebrations today by dancing around in casey's kitchen with christmas songs blaring...not kidding. Fueled by hot chocolate with marshmallows, of course.

ITS DECEMBER 1ST PEOPLE!

What We're Watching Tonight:
So ABC Family is killin' it tonight with Santa Clause 3, The Escape Clause...if the Varsity Banquet doesn't keep up out too late, hopefully we won't miss it. If this proves to be the case, I suppose Eloise at Christmas Time will have to do :)

Christmas lists of favorite movies, songs, activities, foods, etc will be posted! I hear sleigh bells already...

25 Days of DRANKKmas!

We sincerely apologize for our lack of DRANKKing, but we are back and better than ever! (Yes, that is a hess truck reference)

Tase and I are SEWIOUS chrimbo enthusiasts, so naturally we are providing you with 25 days of DRANKKmas. Everyday a Chrimsome related post will be added for everyone's enjoyment. Spreading the holiday cheer people. Thats what we here at PD are all about.
